These images have not been enhanced. The bees naturally occur in these iridescent colors. The process of collecting bees, prepping them and photographing them is an extremely tedious task. I would like to thank Mr. Droege for his generosity in sharing his pictures with us. His photographs allow us to have an up-close and personal view of the bees, which we would have otherwise missed.
Mr Droege heads the department of Native Bee inventory and monitoring lab of the US Geological Survey (USGS) at Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. He has spearheaded and coordinating a number of programs such as the North American Breeding Bird Survey Program, the Bioblitz, Cricket Crawl, the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program, and FrogwatchUSA program. Please visit USGS Flicker page to view more honeybee pictures.
